Guitar Music for your Oregon Wedding Ceremony

The intimacy of the classical guitar seems to fit so perfectly into the romantic atmosphere of a wedding.   Combined with a beautiful setting, you can create a richly textured canvas on which to paint your special occasion.

I have been playing at wedding ceremonies for over ten years.  Together we can plan the musical atmosphere of the day, and I will help in any way I can to make the celebration as beautiful and memorable as it can be.  You can choose music that has personal meaning, and I will arrange it for guitar.

Guitarist Allen Mathews

Special song requests:  I am happy to play specific songs if desired.  Typically this does not involve any extra charges.  However, I reserve the right to ask for an extra fee if the specific requests will take an unusual amount of work to prepare, or if very little notice is given.

Will you accompany my sister (daughter, friend, other) singing in my ceremony?  Sure, I am frequently asked to perform with singers or other instrumentalists.  There is a fee to cover rehearsal time.  I also reserve the right to decline doing accompaniments if I feel that it will not add considerably to the beauty of your event.

What about amplification?  I provide my own amplification, using some of the highest quality equipment available.  Whether indoor or outdoor, the sound of the music is always extremely high quality.

Availability:  Of course more lead time is better, but feel free to inquire about my availability anytime If I am unavailable, I can typically refer you to someone else.

How much does wedding ceremony music cost?

Normal fee for ceremony $400
Each additional hour (for “cocktail hour” or dinner) $200
Travel for outside the Portland area $.50 per mile

For amplified sound, I use only extremely high-end audiophile-quality equipment.  Both my instrument and everything involved in amplification is absolutely world-class.  You can rest assured: it will sound really good.

If you are seeking alternatives, please contact me anyway and I will be happy to recommend some other options for you.

Testimonials from brides and grooms

“Allen is a very talented musician and provided exactly what we needed. Very highly recommended…”  Ben Meade  8/11/2011

“Allen played ceremony and cocktail hour music for my June 29, 2013 wedding, and I’d highly recommend him. He was very professional and responsive from the get go, and really worked with me to find the songs i wanted. We emailed back and forth several times about options and he offered to play anything i wanted as long as he had a little lead time to learn it (if he didn’t know it, but he knew pretty much everything i suggested).
Guests commented on how beautiful the music was and the day really was perfect. Allen’s talent, professionalism and responsiveness made him a wonderful vendor to work with. You can’t go wrong!”   Ashley B.  7/13/2013

“Allen Mathews was one of the most professional musicians that we have ever worked with. You can tell Allen truly loves playing classical guitar; he engages others into the music even at a wedding ceremony!!  My now husband is a classical/jazz musician and he was very impressed by his style and professionalism. We gave him music to only 3 of our 4 songs; the 4th song he was able to transcribe from listening to samples online. He was very affordable and helpful; and made our wedding perfect. He even brought both his regular amp and his battery operated amp in case we could not run a extension cord to him. Thank you so much Allen. Although I (the bride) may not have thanked you personally, I hope you know how much I truly appreciate the perfect wedding music you played at our wedding.”  Casey R.  8/20/2011

“Allen, Thank you so much for the beautiful music you played at our wedding. Your guitar playing really put a special touch to our simple ceremony. Also, we really appreciate your responsiveness to all my questions and suggestions and professional manner in which you carried yourself. Once again, thank you and it was a pleasure to have you be part of our wedding.” Elida and Mike Smith   8/6/2011

“Allen is a wonderfully talented musician and his joy in his music is readily apparent. He is a very gentle and loving soul and when he plays it creates just the right atmosphere for the joyful celebration of love and marriage. He has performed at many weddings where I have officiated and I hope you will have the pleasure of enjoying his exceptionally talented guitar playing at your wedding ceremony and reception. Sincerely, Maureen Haley”  Maureen Haley, Portland wedding officiant
